Vietnam’s Long Thanh International Airport Project Concludes with $1.5 Billion Contract Signing

The airport tender process that started in January 2023 has concluded with a contract worth $1.5 billion. The first phase of the Long Thanh International Airport project was won by VieTur Consortium, led by the Turkish company IC İçtaş İnşaat, the first Turkish firm in the region to hold over 50% stake. Today, a contract will be signed between Vietnam Airports Corporation and the VieTur Consortium.

The groundbreaking ceremony for the International Airport is planned to take place on the morning of August 31, 2023, Thursday. Vietnam Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and several ministers are expected to attend the event.

Before the groundbreaking ceremony, on the evening of August 30, Wednesday, an exclusive event will be held by the Vietnam Prime Ministry, with the participation of IC management and relevant ministers, to discuss major infrastructure projects planned in Vietnam. The airport project and potential future collaborations are seen as significant steps in the development of Turkey-Vietnam relations.

Long Thanh International Airport, aiming to serve 25 million passengers annually and transport 1.2 million tons of cargo, will have a passenger terminal area of 373,000 square meters. With a contract duration of 39 months, the project is expected to make substantial contributions to the country’s trade and tourism sectors.

The successful completion of the Long Thanh International Airport project’s contract signing marks a significant milestone in the collaboration between Turkey and Vietnam. The involvement of Turkish firm IC İçtaş İnşaat in this endeavor not only underscores the company’s capabilities but also highlights the potential for further bilateral cooperation.
