Samsung’s Try Galaxy Web App Offers iPhone Users a Taste of Foldable Devices
2 min readSamsung has updated its “Try Galaxy” web application, allowing iPhone owners to have a chance to experience their foldable devices. For those unfamiliar, Try Galaxy offers users who don’t own an Android device the opportunity to test Galaxy smartphones, including the S23 series, on their own devices. Now, Samsung is attempting to introduce the Galaxy Z Flip5 and Z Fold5 to a new customer base by simulating a similar experience.
According to the official announcement, iOS users will need to connect a second iPhone to their own device in order to simulate the unfolded screen of the Z Fold5. This will enable users to activate “video previews” where they can see how content appears on the full screen. Subsequently, the app will enable features like drag-and-drop, allowing iPhone users to experience what it’s like to move items between screens.
As shown in the image below, users can see how One UI 5.1.1 looks on both phones or even play digital air hockey.
There isn’t a real way to simulate the smaller external screen of the Z Flip5 on an iPhone, so this is not achievable. Instead, users can try out the FlexCam mode, a camera feature found on both foldable devices. However, there’s a minor issue with this exclusive preview: we don’t know exactly how it will work.
FlexCam essentially serves as a timer tool for hands-free photography. The key difference is that it allows you to elevate the phone for interesting angles. While this can easily be done by folding a device like the Z Flip5, it’s clearly not feasible to do so with an iPhone. Based on Samsung’s explanation, this might just be a screen demonstration showcasing all the different angles possible with FlexCam.
In addition to special software tools, Samsung’s app also provides access to more general features. For instance, there’s Quick Share for sending files to friends and family, and when paired with a Galaxy Watch, there’s the option to preview your body composition history in Samsung Health.
